French and Italian food IS better. Fresher, realer, riper, yummier...

The produce was local, *smelled* good, was ripening without ethylene gassing. The cheese? Dozens of different kinds, all wrapped in beeswax or cloth. The sweets were wonderful. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Oh, the food. That's one of the things I love most about those countries! Also the art.

Made me laugh--my daughter's teacher said to me on my return from Bologna, "Italian men are works of art,themselves..."

The women, too. There are really a lot of pretty people--and truly interesting faces, too. The thing that hit me was the general air of well being, of content. I don't speak Italian or French, but I do read faces pretty well.

Another thing: In Paris and in Bologna, I can't recall seeing even one truly obese person--and very few who were overweight at all. There are huge immigrant populations in both, especially Paris. It's like being in NYC, the world lives there. So it isn't the luck of a single genome...
